Insights, Stories, and Tips for the Inquisitive Mind
Our journey began in the vibrant world of creative arts, a path that has not only shaped us as artists but as leaders, educators, and advocates. Through the arts, we discovered powerful skills — creativity, communication, resilience — that transcend the studio and stage, enriching our lives in education, business, and community leadership. Inspired by our own transformation, we're dedicated to unlocking this potential in others. Our mission is to guide individuals in exploring their creative talents, developing their personal and professional skills, and empowering them to lead and inspire in all aspects of their lives.
Our ethos is simple – everyone has a story to tell, a song to sing, or a dance to share. We believe in the transformative power of the arts to enrich lives and communities. By making arts accessible to all, we aim to foster confidence, creativity, and a sense of belonging.
So, dive in! Explore, learn, and let us know if there's something specific you're curious about. We're here to help, one post at a time.

Let’s be honest... you’ve been talking about Level 2 Music a lot. But if you’re sat there thinking:
“Yeah… but what actually is it?”
This is for you.
These are the questions people usually ask - so you don't have to piece it together yourself.
If you're looking for a music qualification, Level 2 Music at BHVA is an accredited course (GCSE equivalent) - just built differently.
There’s:
No final exam
No pressure to perform
No “one way” of doing things
Instead, you'll focus on:
Understanding music
Creating music
Reflecting on your journey
If you've looked at GCSE Music before, this is probably the question you're really asking.
Here's the simplest way to understand it:
GCSE Music = perform + test
BHVA Level 2 = create + explore + understand
You build your work over time, rather than being tested in one moment.
For a lot of people, that changes everything.

In a traditional sense, it’s aimed at Year 10–11 (GCSE age).
In reality, this is for you if:
you don’t have music as an option at school
you can’t fit it into your timetable
you're home educated
you're in EOTAS or alternative provision
you love music but don’t want the pressure of performing
If you’ve ever thought:
“I want to do music… but not like that"
This is probably what you’ve been looking for.

It’s a 2-year course, just like GCSEs. You’ll attend:
2 sessions per week
2.5 hours total
Term time only
That’s it.
Everything is delivered within those sessions.
No.
And for a lot of people… that’s a relief.
This course is 100% coursework. You build a portfolio over time, including:
Your ideas
Your creations
Your reflections
It’s about what you can do over time - not what you can remember in a 2-hour exam.
This course is designed to fit you - not force you into one way of learning music. You’ll focus on:

Breaking down songs
Understanding structure, instruments, mood
Comparing different pieces
Exploring how people hear music differently
Learning how music is built
Chords, progressions, structure
Turning ideas into actual music

Creating your own music
Building a portfolio
Developing your own style
And throughout all of it:
Reflection
Discussion
Understanding your own process
No.
You can - but you don’t have to. You can create music using:
Software (GarageBand, etc.)
MIDI keyboards
Written notation
Your own instruments
You don't have to be “the best musician in the room.” It’s about learning how music works - and how you work with it.
If you’re coming into BHVA … You don’t need anything.
Everything you need is provided:
iPads
Software
Everything you need
You literally just turn up.
If you’re doing it online:
You'll be guided through it
You'll be supported as you set things up
Short answer: no.
Long answer:
Year 1 → everything can be done in sessions
Year 2 → you might want to do more at home
Not because you have to but because creativity doesn’t stick to a timetable.
You might get an idea at home.
You might want to tweak something.
That’s your choice.

There are 3 main modules, each with structured tasks.
You’ll:
Complete practical tasks
Compare and analyse music
Create your own work
Reflect on what you’ve learned
Your work is:
Assessed internally
Moderated externally
Then signed off as your final qualification
No surprises. No last-minute panic.
This isn’t just about getting a qualification. It’s about you:
Finding your way back into learning
Building your confidence
Creating something that feels like you
So…
What if this is the thing that clicks?
You don't have to decide today.
But you can take a look:
Your Journey. Your Story.
All delivered to your inbox every fortnight.
