Insights, Stories, and Tips for the Inquisitive Mind
Our journey began in the vibrant world of creative arts, a path that has not only shaped us as artists but as leaders, educators, and advocates. Through the arts, we discovered powerful skills — creativity, communication, resilience — that transcend the studio and stage, enriching our lives in education, business, and community leadership. Inspired by our own transformation, we're dedicated to unlocking this potential in others. Our mission is to guide individuals in exploring their creative talents, developing their personal and professional skills, and empowering them to lead and inspire in all aspects of their lives.
Our ethos is simple – everyone has a story to tell, a song to sing, or a dance to share. We believe in the transformative power of the arts to enrich lives and communities. By making arts accessible to all, we aim to foster confidence, creativity, and a sense of belonging.
So, dive in! Explore, learn, and let us know if there's something specific you're curious about. We're here to help, one post at a time.
In a world that often idolises perfection, it's essential to remember the profound impact our words and feedback have on shaping mindsets and fostering growth. Perfection isn't just a myth; it's an ever-shifting target that, if pursued, can lead to a lack of fulfilment and a dull existence.
Replace "Failure" with "Learning": Every setback is a setup for a comeback. When someone stumbles, remind them it's not failure; it's learning. It's the first step to their next success.
Embrace the ‘Yets’: Incorporate the word "yet" into your vocabulary to transform a fixed mindset into a growth mindset. It's not about what you can't do; it's about what you haven't mastered yet.
Transformative Language: Shift from "I need to" to "I want to." This subtle change empowers us to approach tasks with desire rather than obligation, sparking motivation and reducing stress.
Swap "I Have to" with "I Get to": This simple flip turns daily tasks into opportunities. From "I have to go to work" to "I get to contribute my skills and make a difference", watch motivation soar.
"Challenge" instead of "Problem": When faced with obstacles, referring to them as challenges rather than problems can foster a can-do attitude that empowers us and others to find solutions.
From "But" to "And": Instead of negating the positive with "but," use "and" to build on it. "You did great, but..." becomes "You did great, and you can enhance it by...". It’s not a criticism; it’s an encouragement to ascend.
"Difficult" to "Interesting": When tasks seem daunting, calling them "interesting" invites curiosity and reduces anxiety. "This is difficult" turns into "This is an interesting challenge," sparking intrigue and determination.
Feedback as Guidance: Instead of aiming for perfection, use feedback as a tool to guide learners towards self-discovery and improvement. Encourage questions and reflection to foster ownership of their growth.
Feedback Timing: Feedback should be a continuous dialogue throughout the learning process, not an endpoint. It's about creating an ongoing conversation that helps learners adjust and advance, using your words to encourage this growth.
Equality in Feedback: Ensure your feedback is free from bias and is tailored to each individual’s needs. Challenge stereotypes and embrace equity in the way you communicate expectations and support through your choice of words.
Listen to Grow: Embrace silence and give others the floor to express themselves. Listening is a powerful tool that allows learners to process and own their development, sometimes it's not about your words but about not saying anything and allowing time to listen. You don't always have to use words to encourage growth.
Feedback's Nature: It should be constructive, not critical. Start with positives, what was enjoyed or done well, and then explore areas of curiosity and potential growth without pressure.
Embrace "The Power of Words" and witness the transformative change it brings to your life and those you guide. Because in the end, we all grow together—one word, one feedback session, one reflection at a time.
